Ready or Not

I love the Bible. I love that it’s described as the ‘Living Word’ of God.

Today I was shown a verse that had actually been echoing through my mind for several weeks/months. Why? Who knows…it’s like a song that gets stuck, and not in a bad way. In the Bible it says the Bible is a double-edged sword, dividing (Hebrews 4:12)….and the Bible is likened also as the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). So when a Bible verse comes to mind, I believe it is God the Holy Spirit who is impressing me.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

This is such a beautiful verse. I have been SO WEARY the last few months. It’s the unknown, I think. It’s the evil I see wherever I look. It’s the undercurrent of change [and hopefully you’ve read about what I think about Change]. I have chosen to stop looking at news, which I never thought I’d do. It is the overwhelming ‘need’ of others that I must buck-up for, and the internal fight I have that their ‘need’ seems to counter my independence and selfishness. It’s the fact that ‘right’ seems to be so different for everyone else other than me. That God has been pushed out of everything in this country that we hold so dear. That over the last year and a half, with churches closed, persons’ need of God has seemed to diminish or become an afterthought “our church offered on-line services but that became my time for ‘me’ with all that is going on.

So, the above verse actually wasn’t the verse that had been echoing….I know, then what was the point?! Because the verse that was shown to me I found just before the above verse. I’ve talked already about the Living Word and using a book [Bring your Bible] to study the Bible…so I was given a verse to look up and so I did, but my eye jumped first to the above verse which I’ve underlined before….’no way’ I thought…this verse is so positive, I love it. A healing verse, a calming verse. The verse I was looking up was more of the ‘dividing of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow’ (Hebrews 4:12) kind of verse. And here was THIS preceding verse…which I also needed to hear.

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the won who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Galatians 5:2

Maybe it doesn’t hit you today like it hit me… Time after time, the past month or two, the line “God cannot be mocked” has come to mind. And here is the Spirit’s answer to my repetitive questioning, agonizing, silent shouts of ‘its unfair!’

I see before me a culture which has made God so small, so powerless to the powerful waves of culture changes, so indifferent to the injustices of ALL, so soft to the abuses handed down, so uncaring of the lack of respect for His Holy Name and the time devoted to Him, so impotent that He does not enforce the “rules” He has handed down.

But we are told in the Bible that ‘as it was in the days of Noah’ (Matthew 24:37) and that in heaven the people of Nineveh will condemn ‘this generation’ because they heeded the warnings of the prophet Jonah (Matthew 12:39-41). And in Galatians we are warned and promised that GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED. As the song goes “Our God is bigger, our God is stronger, God you are higher than any other.”

And we are NOT TO BECOME WEARY doing good. Because GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED. Dear Reader, we are promised that, though all we see is bad, though good seems to be nothing but punished, though loved ones are sick and die, though every week becomes harder to get through, though trouble seems around every corner…there will come a day, READY OR NOT, that God WILL STAND UP and show His power.

At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise

Daniel 12:1

Ready or not. It is said that when the Prince arises, He does it to prepare for battle. GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED. In the words of John the Revelator, through vision, Jesus reassured him and us...

I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

Revelation 3:11

God will not be mocked. Do not grow weary. Hold on to what you have. Ready or Not.
