One of the most influential persons in my life was a missionary with the last name of Gates…no the first name was not Bill. Pastor David Gates preached at our University/Church so many years ago I’m surprised I remember his name. The story that sticks with me the most is that he purchased something big to be used for God (I think it was a radio station)…without having the money on hand. But the station was available right then and God instructed David, an un-wealthy missionary, to buy it. Already having started the programming on the radio station, the day came closer to when he needed to pay for the station; Pastor David prayed fervently to God, asking God to provide for the station that they’d bought without having the money. At the DAY the money was due or the station would be foreclosed on, God provided the money, the exact amount, that was needed.
It’s these stories that I remember…that I find in the Bible…particularly when I’m needing them. I’ve heard the line “We’ve made God too small” and I cannot agree more. I’ve claimed the verse in Psalm 50 numerous times myself “‘and I own the cattle on a thousand hills'” believing that if God directs me to take a leap for him, then He can provide the security.
And I believe that commonly we forget that God enjoys Planning Big. And He takes pleasure when He can help us accomplish big things, for His glory. So, if God is speaking to you to take that Big leap…to Plan Big….don’t be afraid to trust him on these challenges.
Two verses. Claim them. Listen to the voice of God. Then Plan Big.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back… Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated…. For your Maker is your husband–the LORD Almighty is his name–the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.”
Isaiah 54:2, 4, 5
