Letting go

Today I needed this reminder. The minutes, hours, days, weeks and months have just worn on me. I start each answer to ‘how have you been?’ with ‘I’m making it.’ Then this morning a blessed Scripture came to mind to the tune I was privileged to have been taught since childhood.

” Come unto me, all who labor and are heavy laden; and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

TODAY.

Come unto me

Stop what you’re doing today, child. Look to your Father in Heaven.

All who labor and are heavy laden

Any of you who is tired, working, overwhelmed

And I will give you rest

All we have to do do is come and be tired, and REST will come to US, not because of what we’ve done but because of who we are.

Take my yoke upon you

In exchange for our weights, our timelines, our responsibility, our grief, we are to take the requirements of our Father on our shoulders. “And what does the Lord require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

And learn of me

When I REST and act justly, love mercy and walk with my God then I also find time to learn of Him.

For I am meek and lowly in heart

This world, my work…it was never meant to be all about me. It’s about my Father. I need to let go of my thoughts that it’s about me.

And you will find rest for your souls.

When I’m not so worried about me and my life, the deep down ‘peace that passes beyond understanding” (Philippians 4:7) surrounds me despite the storm that surrounds me.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

The more I REST in my Father and learn of Him, the easier it is to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with my God. “Seek first the kingdom of God and all His righteousness and everything else will be added unto you” Matthew 6:33 [my words]
